Goldendoodle
Features

Origins
The Goldendoodle is a hybrid cross between the Golden Retriever and the Poodle, developed in Australia and the United States from the 1990s with the aim of producing a hypoallergenic guide dog. Although not recognised as a pure breed by the main cynological registries, it is one of the most popular hybrid dogs in the world.
Characteristics and aptitudes
The Goldendoodle is an affectionate, intelligent and very sociable dog that adapts well to all types of families. Its curly or wavy coat sheds very little hair, making it popular among people with mild allergies. It is easy to train and has a moderate to high energy level. It comes in miniature, medium and standard size depending on the type of Poodle used in the cross.
Care
The Goldendoodle needs daily exercise and mental stimulation to stay balanced. Coat maintenance is demanding: it requires daily brushing and regular visits to the groomer. Socialisation and training from puppyhood are recommended. Veterinary check-ups should include joint, cardiac and eye examinations.
Most common diseases
The Goldendoodle can inherit diseases from both parent breeds:
- Hip and elbow dysplasia: hereditary joint malformation that can cause pain and difficulty moving.
- Progressive retinal atrophy: progressive degeneration of the retina that can lead to blindness.
- Skin allergies: frequent skin sensitivity, related to the Poodle's heritage.
- Subaortic stenosis: congenital narrowing of the left ventricular outflow tract that can affect the heart.
